Single-Sided vs. Double-Sided Vinyl Banners
Share
Choose a Single vinyl banner when only one customer-facing direction matters, such as a banner placed against an approved wall or another surface where the reverse will not communicate. Evaluate Double when the approved placement exposes two meaningful customer views and both need artwork. Bigfoot currently lists Single and Double choices across its 2 x 4, 3 x 5, 4 x 8, and Custom Size options, but the live page does not fully define reverse-side construction or whether each face can use different artwork. Confirm those details before ordering.
Start with the placement, not the option name
Draw the exact location from above. Mark the wall, fence, booth boundary, aisle, entrance, neighboring display, and every direction from which the intended audience can see the banner. Then label each view as meaningful or irrelevant.
A meaningful view is one where the banner has a real job, such as identifying the organization, marking a station, sharing one approved message, or directing people to a confirmed destination. A visible reverse is not automatically a useful second side. It may face a staff area, wall, restricted space, or route that does not need the message.
Choose the side option only after the event organizer, property owner, or venue has approved the placement. Moving the banner later can change which direction matters and can make directional wording incorrect.
Choose Single when one direction does the work
Single is the first option to evaluate when the banner has one intended customer-facing view. Examples may include:
- A banner displayed against an approved wall
- A banner facing outward from the front of a vendor table or booth
- A school or event banner whose reverse faces a non-public area
- A sponsor banner with one confirmed audience direction
These examples describe viewing plans, not mounting instructions. The selected location, attachment method, product instructions, and venue rules still need separate confirmation.
Using Single can keep the artwork decision focused when the reverse has no communication role. It also prevents the team from creating a second composition merely because another option exists.
Evaluate Double when two views are genuinely useful
Double may deserve consideration when the approved location exposes both faces to different customer routes and each route needs the banner's message. Examples may include an open area, a freestanding display plan, or a route where people approach from opposite directions.
Before selecting Double, answer:
- Who is expected to see each face?
- What should each audience understand?
- Will the message be the same on both faces?
- Does Bigfoot allow a different approved file for each face of this exact configuration?
- How does Bigfoot describe the reverse appearance and construction?
- Does the final placement remain within current venue or property rules?
The live storefront confirms that Double is a selectable label, but it does not publish enough detail to answer every construction and artwork question here. Get those answers from Bigfoot before final files are built.
Do not confuse two views with two messages
A double-sided banner can repeat one clear message in two directions. It does not need two unrelated campaigns. When both audiences have the same goal, using the same approved identity and message can make the plan easier to review.
If the two directions require different information, write the job of each face before designing. Confirm that different artwork is supported, then label the files clearly. Avoid creating two dense layouts that compete with the reason the banner was ordered.
Directional arrows, entrance labels, booth numbers, dates, and event-specific instructions should be checked face by face. Mirroring or duplicating an arrow without reference to the real placement can send people the wrong way.
Choose the size from the measured location
As of October 7, 2026, Bigfoot's live Vinyl Banner selector lists:
- Small: 2 x 4 feet
- Medium: 3 x 5 feet
- Large: 4 x 8 feet
- Custom Size: Email Request
Each current size selection offers Single and Double labels. Select the dimensions by measuring the approved location, accounting for surrounding displays, and checking the complete product details. The side choice should follow the viewing plan rather than replace the size decision.
For a size-specific workflow, read What Size Vinyl Banner Should You Use for an Event Booth?. It covers the live size selections and measured-location process; this article focuses on the side choice.
Map the artwork for every intended face
Create a small placement diagram and name the intended view for each face, such as Entrance View, Aisle View, or Booth Interior. Use the same names on the proof and production files.
For each customer-facing side, prioritize:
- The organization, brand, school, team, or event identity
- One short category or message
- One action or direction only when the approved placement requires it
Keep contact details, schedules, sponsor groups, and supporting information secondary. If a reader must stand close and study a paragraph, that information may belong on a different piece.
Prepare files for the selected configuration
Use the exact template or dimensions confirmed for the ordered banner. Follow Bigfoot's current Artwork Guidelines for file preparation, color, fonts, safe areas, and proofing.
The live guide lists AI, PDF, EPS, and SVG as preferred formats. It also says PNG, JPG, TIFF, and PSD may work when built at full print size, with 96 DPI minimum and 200 DPI or higher preferred. CMYK is preferred, and custom fonts should be outlined or converted to curves.
If Double uses two separate files, name each file by the view it serves rather than using vague labels such as Front and Back. Front can change when the banner's orientation changes. A location-based name makes the proof easier to compare with the approved placement diagram.
Use this decision checklist
- Is the final banner location approved?
- How many customer-facing directions have a real communication job?
- What does each intended audience need to understand?
- Will both faces use the same artwork or different artwork?
- Has Bigfoot confirmed reverse appearance, construction, and artwork requirements?
- Does the chosen 2 x 4, 3 x 5, 4 x 8, or Custom Size option fit the measured location?
- Are any arrows or location-specific words correct on each face?
- Do the files follow the current artwork guide and exact template?
- Does the proof identify each view clearly?
- Have spelling, URLs, dates, logos, and product options been checked?
Review the current Vinyl Banner sizes and side selections, then choose Single or Double from the confirmed customer-view plan and get any unclear reverse or artwork detail answered before approving production.
